Buddy is missing and Louisa has been putting up leaflets looking for him. She later spots him at the top of the village and chases him into the local undertaker’s house. Turns out Buddy has made friends with her dog and has been spending a lot of time there. Martin is expecting a doctor to do his GMC assessment, but it all goes horribly wrong when the fake patients can’t remember what their ailments are and Martin terminates the assessment. Penhale is investigating stolen equipment from a local farm. His predecessor, Mark Mylow, shows up in the village to investigate a string of such crimes and they work together on the local case. Penhale solves the case by noticing that their tractor has been recently repainted and they are making a false report for insurance purposes. Louisa continues to worry about her fertility and Martin runs some tests. Ken, the pub owner shows up and tells Bert and Al that he wants to sell the pub. They try to convince him to sell it to them in installments, and he accepts their offer. Ken isn’t feeling well and goes upstairs to rest. When they bring the contract up for him to sign, they discover he has died in his bed.
