It's time for Bert Large to pay the piper and return the 1000 pounds plus interest that he borrowed from loan shark Alastair Tonken. Eleanor learns of his problem and suggests they organize a Spanish-themed night but after cooking up a storm in Bert's kitchen, falls seriously ill requiring Martin to make an emergency operation. Bert has also told Al of his predicament and he decides to use the 800 pounds Ruth Ellingham gave him to buy fencing for the farm to pay back at least part of the loan. They'll still have to deal with Tonken and his thug of a son, Norman. Meanwhile, Louisa has moved in with her mother Eleanor and Martin has decided that he will be returning to London alone. He's certain however that he's seen James' pram being pushed around the village by one of the teenage girls.
